Job Summary

We are seeking a Safety Specialist based in the East region who will be responsible for the daily administration and implementation of the Safety program, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and promoting safe and healthy working conditions.   He or she performs complex assignments following the direction of superiors. Supports preparation of reports, provides site inspections, assists with safety programs, and supports training and orientation. The Safety Specialist will work closely with all departments to develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the health and well-being of our employees and the protection of company assets.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create ways to keep workers and the general public safe from harm.
  • Reduce absenteeism and equipment downtime through effective safety programs.
  • Lower insurance premiums and workers’ compensation payments.
  • Prevent government citations and fines.
  • Inform organization’s management of areas not in compliance with State and Federal laws or employer policies.
  • Uncover patterns in injury data.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct inspection violations.
  • Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.
  • Advise workers on proper lifting techniques and other safe work practices.
  • Observe associates for safe behaviors
  • Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to organizations on how to handle safety-related problems and make needed changes.
  • Interpret safety regulations for others interested in industrial safety such as managers, leads and employees.
  • Write and revise safety policies and procedures.
  • Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Plan and conduct industrial hygiene research.

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Maintain OSHA Data in Keller System / OSHA 300 log / Sharps Log
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis with On-Site Managers
  • Ensure closure of corrective actions from root cause analysis
  • Assist On-Site Managers with compliance documentation requirements
  • Audit/Assess facilities for hazards and compliance.
  • Communicate findings to Leadpoint Management, Client Management and On-Site Manager
  • Manage government inspections
  • Manage incident/injury events to a positive outcome for the employee and Leadpoint
  • Assist On-Site Managers to improve safety performance and reduce workers compensation costs
  • Be a visible safety leader in the organization.
  • Provide data/support for workers comp claims as requested by superiors
  • Participate in monthly safety calls and assist with translation where necessary.
  • Travel to operational locations as required and approved by superiors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or recycling setting.
  • Certification: OSHA 30-Hour certification, First Aid/CPR certification, and/or other relevant safety certifications (preferred).
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA), hazard identification, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
  • Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to train and influence staff at all levels.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform safety inspections in various environments, which may involve lifting, walking, and working in various weather conditions.
